Rex the King
February 17, 2008*Badung dun, babadung dung* The sound of the motor the tricycle is part of his everyday life. This sound is so precious to him because it is his way of living. For four years, he has been one of the drivers of the ultimate Atenean ride. This is his only way to provide for his family. But life wasn’t always like that.
He was born on 1971 when everyone was in the cemetery remembering all soul’s day. He is a native of the province Roxas, Capiz and one of the ten children of Mr. and Mrs. Digones. He loved baseball when he was in high-school and he was even part of the varsity team. Sadly, he only got to finish high-school because college education was too pricey for their family. He made his living as a pig butcher before deciding to face the challenges in living in Manila.
On his arrival in Manila on 1994, he served as the driver of the now famous Dermatologist Dr. Vicki Belo. Life in Manila went well for him, Manila is the place where he also met his wife and they have been married for twelve years.
He already has a family and together with his wife, he takes care of four lovely children; the eldest is about to graduate from grade-school. He works hard because his family is his number one priority. He maximizes the 300 Pesos he earns from work everyday to ensure that his family’s daily needs are met. His love for his family is his inspiration to work-hard and to be a role-model for his kids to follow.
Even-though life is hard, he still manages to raise a family. That is why he never fails to thank God for all the blessings he receives. He and his wife are active members of the Christian Community Couples for Christ. His kids are members of Kids for Christ and Youth for Christ which are groups that are under Couples for Christ. This role model, hardworking father is none other than Rex Digones.
Like me, he goes to the Ateneo everyday and works hard! ;). Rex and I have the same opinion regarding the ZTE scandal. We think that Mr. Lozada is telling the truth and that Mr. Abalos is a dirty old fool. His family belongs to the Christian Community Couples for Christ like my family. We never forget that God is a great and merciful God and we never fail to thank him through our service in the same community for God.
Rex wasn’t able to attend college like I’m doing right now. Because of his busy schedule, Rex is not able to regularly attend Sunday mass but I always see to it that I attend mass during the Sabbath day. Rex has nine siblings while I only have one. Rex is now working but I am still studying. He has found his one true love and they have now a beautiful family while I’m still searching for mine ;).
Surprisingly, I had fun while interviewing Rex. I felt comfortable asking him serious questions like how he manages to provide for his family or his opinions on the economic situation of the Philippines to simple and worthless questions like whether he likes John Lloyd Cruz or not or which noon time show he likes better. I had fun while asking him questions. There was this sense of comfort I found in him. Maybe it is because that I discovered that his family belonged to the Christian community which my family is also a part of. But perhaps, the reason I felt comfortable asking him questions is that I have respect for him. Who wouldn’t respect a person who works tirelessly for his family? Who wouldn’t respect a person who sets a good example for his kids? Who wouldn’t respect a person who never fails to thank his God for all the blessings in his life? Who wouldn’t respect Rex?
Rex’s name really suits him because he is the king. He is the king of of the Katipunan road, the king of his queen and most importantly, the king of his family.

Is *Badung dun, babadung dung* really the sound of a tricycle?!?! hahaha
Anyway, the introduction to Rex was good, but I think you could have used more complex modifiers. ☺ The insights on the reflection part were good and well thought of. The use of the questions makes an impact to the reader and leaves the reader thinking about it. The flow of the whole entry was smooth organized and easy to read. The entry showcased a lot of information, which just shows how extensive the interview was done. Good job! ☺ The facts on the subject were interesting especially the fact that he was the former driver of the now famous Vicki Belo. ☺ Nice title and the ending about Rex being the king of the katipunan, his wife and his family.
